The US Department of War’s (Pentagon) military operation against Iran is estimated to cost at least $40 billion, CNN reported Sunday, citing data from the Washington, DC-based Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS).

"The sticker price of the war is around $40 billion, but the total price is much higher," CNN reports.

Mark Cancian, a senior adviser at CSIS, told CNN that this amount includes the cost of ammunition, lost equipment, and the restoration of military bases.

At the same time, the estimate does not include operational costs, which are already provided for in the US Department of War's 2026 budget. The total defense budget exceeds $1 trillion.

In addition, according to CNN, the US military department has already used up to $20 billion in additional funding. In total, $80 billion was required for these purposes.
